With Mother’s Day being this Sunday, I thought I’d share one of my favorite old pictures of my mom. I don’t have many old photographs because the majority of them were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. So the one I do have are extra special to me.
There’s my mom in what had to be the 70’s. She was a school teacher at the time and I believe this was one of her school pictures. She later went on to get a masters degree, become a principal, and move on to work for the school board office as well as the state department of education. My mom taught me the importance of hard work, drive, and education. She was always there to encourage me, and listened with an open ear when graduate school economics and statistics had taken a beating on my psyche.
But most importantly, she taught me everything I know about fashion. We have been shopping together for as long as I can remember! And this is the woman who when upon completion of any feat or major accomplishment tells me to go out and celebrate by buying an outfit…my kind of woman! And can we please talk about her style in this photo? I love her curly short haircut, chunky gold earrings and pendant necklace, and her striped shirt. Such classics to this day. Thank you mom for all you do. I love you so much. Happy mother’s day!
